Family Fitness Day
On April 23rd, Glenwood Elementary will be hosting a Healthful Living Day to promote the importance of living healthy by eating right and exercising.  During the school day, all students will participate in a Fun Run or a 5K Challenge.  Parents and family members are invited to attend our Family Healthful Living evening that afternoon.  Beginning at 5:00pm, families are invited to return to school to participate in a number of family activities on the school playground.  Corn Hole, horseshoes, volleyball, ladder toss and disc golf are just a few of the planned activities. There are a number of health organizations that will be on the grounds providing information and giving presentations.  Mark your calendar for this day of healthy fun, April 23rd.
Appalachian Trail
APPALACHIAN TRAIL CHALLENGE
Students at Glenwood Elementary have been getting on the trail toward healthier bodies by participating in a fitness competition called the Appalachian Trail Fitness Challenge.  Students and grade levels receive mileage credit by doing laps for ten minutes during recess.  Students also keep "at-home" exercise logs and receive credit for exercising alone or with their families.  All of this exercise time converts to miles which moves grade levels through the fourteen states of the Appalachian Trail.  A new race is begun and points awarded at the completion of each state. All grade levels will receive an incentive at the end of the challenge.  While students love the big incentive of receiving a field trip or extra Physical Education session, they know that the grandest prize is the award of a healthier heart!
Attention Graduating Seniors
If you are a graduating senior who attended Glenwood Elementary from grades K-6, don't forget to complete the Lynn G McNeilly Scholarship application for an opportunity to be awarded $1000 towards your college education.  All applications are due by May 15.  Please download the application here: modules/groups/homepagefiles/cms/40576/File/scholarship2013.doc

1.Place your back packs on a seat at one of the last three tables.

2. No talking while in line.  Voice on 5.

3. Fill in empty seats on the first two rows of tables.

4. Whisper voice to talk to your friends at your table.

5. Clean up your area before you leave your seat.

6. Lights will be turned off at 8:10 so you can get to class on time.
